  2. Sorry about leaving so quick. Did I miss anything? While the approach was good (GJ Sparks), once at the Obj we started suffering. The first problem (IMHO) was us (blue) stopping in the open, making us a target while in sight of the obj. Once at the obj we suffered the same faith as Syrians using tanks without infantry support inside built up areas. I love (LOVE) tanks, they can be mobile firebases/bunkers with the infantry. Without infantry they are just bullet magnets. I think we could have offset a lot of the weaknesses had we had UAV support. I have very fond memories of rolling in with a tank supported with infantry on Liberation, so I know we can do better. I don't know what was said during the debrief, but I'm sure the kerfuffle with the ammo for the tanks was brought up. Honestly, this mission would be worth revisiting. Maybe one tank, one APC full of heavy infantry dismounts, and we would have rocked that shit. In closing, I am curious about what everyone's view distance was set at. I was engaging infantry at one point (using thermals) I heard lots of chatter about who was shooting at what, even though I call out bearings. My settings are maxed out...

    Some thoughts from last night: Good plan, if I say so myself, but like any good plan it didn't survive contact with the enemy. In hindsight we were less than 5 minutes off in setting up the mines at the entrance of the village, which would have made all the difference in the world. Had I been quicker in getting the overwatch position clearing organized, it likely would have went swimmingly. I kept expecting Arch's team to run out of ammo, but ultimately only Sawtes ran low. Maybe we should always bring at least some disposable AT capability, just in case. Thanks to Farsight for the speedball delivery. We could have rolled in a little heavier equipped, we just weren't used to that level of enemy activity. Excellent strafing run by Viking. As close and as effective as you could ever want. From my perspective everyone performed awesome. All in all we accomplished the mission. The people getting dropped and the overwhelming enemy force took from the fun somewhat.
  5. That's interesting. Never been on the receiving end of smoke and I never knew it would "rattle" people nearby. Those smoke rounds were purposefully landed there, with the expectation that you were about to break north any moment. I figured a little early wouldn't be catastrophic. Now that I know it creates suppression I will be more careful. I'm trying to track down the damage radius for mortar rounds. If anyone has any references, i am all ears. (Currently googling)
  6. Came to say pretty much what @sparkstable wrote. Again, good job @Trauma, I like that this mission was directly set up from last week's mission. Good pacing, and the evac under fire at the end was the cherry on the sundae. Watching the map contacts creep in closer and closer, waiting for permission to open up with the mortar was a bit nerve wracking . @CyphasCayne was reportedly injured by one of my rounds, which should not have happened. If you get hit by my indirect fire, let me know. I try to account for variables, putting them as close as possible, but friendly fire isn't cool on Ops. Good job everyone. 10/10 would mortar again.

    More from my rambling debrief: Great job Red team. Great on the ambush, amazing volume of fire. Good movement up to the camp after the ambush. Good situational awareness shooting up the injured opfor waking up (sMoKe and Stillwater). Good calling out the enemy and reacting, on the way, at the ambush, at the camp, after securing the camp, and even while we were retreating. Still loving Stillwater picking up the M240 off of Tron's dead body. We should have been more mindful of our formations, and Etherwolf ran out of ammo.

    Mission Ideas

    -VIP escort. Meeting in town, must defend against possible attack. Mission complete when VIP back in camp/secure area. Team can decide on transportation mode: ground/air/water. PACE plan accordingly. (I think this was already suggested back in June?) -Defend outpost. Starship Trooper style? Maybe after an airdrop? Call in some indirect fire? -Infiltrate and assault outpost. -SWCC water extraction (Zengiant's idea) (Probably a nice way to wrap up a mission) -Assault town/ Direct Action on a building. With sniper/spotter team overwatch and/or CAS (AC-130ish Blackfish?) -Air Assault on an industrial building. Recover something. Extract. (SWCC?) -Presence patrol turns to shit. -Ambush on convoy/convoys. QRF responds. Team leads given convoy route, must decide best ambush location. QRF responds from unexpected direction, team must re-org/re-align (or die). -Secure crashed helicopter. Bad location. Wait for extraction. Farsight comes in to a hot LZ, saving the day. -QRF/answer distress call. Kind of like an audible. Everyone arrives thinking we are going to do X, but while people are prepping something happens and we must move NOW. Or might be a good back pocket mission when we finish another one early. You have to respond before you have a chance to re-arm/re-adjust. Maybe a blown up convoy (mine, or RPG) have to fix truck and get back to camp. -Infantry vs tank in city. One squad has to distract the tank while another one tries to disable with a satchel charge(?) -Airfield assault. Crew must paradrop near airfield. Disable AA defenses and site security, so transport plane can land. Extract. -Try and infil undetected/without alerting the area. Blow up target. Exfil. The more noise you make, the worst the response is. -"Lets do the whole fucking village". Small/medium size town. Everyone gets their favourite vehicle. Blow up the town until the server crashes. Many enemies.

    Hello all, I've been gaming for a while, on both PS systems and PC. I usually play more RTS, with the odd FPS here and there. I'm Canadian and I have spent some time in the military, nothing overly exciting. Nowadays I work my own safety consulting business, telling people not to run around with scissors. My time zone is PST, in case you want to reach me. ETA (14DEC16): It was decided that my display name would go from "Joe" to Mother Bitch. Picture attached is me being flown around by Farsight, using a spotting scope and a drone. That was on my second night on the server.
